Beyond the website: the systems that run your business
By Loretta Mills-Leggett · 11 October 2026

For years, my work started and finished with how a business looked: the logo, the brand, the website. That still matters enormously, it is the first impression you make. But over the last while, LNM Creative has grown into something more. We now build the systems that sit behind the website too, and it has changed what we can do for a small business.
Here is what I mean, without the jargon.
The website is the front door, not the whole house
Your website is where customers meet you. It is brilliant at making a first impression and telling your story. What it usually cannot do on its own is run your business: take a booking and put it in your calendar, let a customer check the status of their job, or stop you re-typing the same details into three different places.
That is where development comes in. It is the plumbing behind the pretty front door.
What that looks like in practice
A few of the things we build alongside a website:
- Customer portals. One place your customers log in to book, view and manage their account, instead of emailing back and forth.
- A team dashboard. Somewhere your staff can see jobs, bookings or enquiries at a glance.
- Integrations. Your website talking automatically to the tools you already use, so information flows instead of being copied by hand.
- Web chat into your phone. A conversation that starts on your site can carry on by call or text.
None of this is only for big companies. The same ideas scale right down to a one-person business that is tired of admin eating its evenings.
Design and development, from one place
What I love about doing both sides is that they pull in the same direction. The portal looks like your brand. The dashboard feels as considered as your homepage. You are not handing a beautiful website to a separate developer and hoping it survives.
You do not have to take all of this on at once. Plenty of our projects are still design only, and the systems come later when a business is ready. But if admin is slowing you down, or you have ever thought "there has to be a better way to handle this," it is worth a conversation. Often there is.

What is a customer portal, and does your business need one?
Customer portals are not just for banks and big software companies. Here is what they are, and when they make sense for a small business.

Stop re-typing everything: connecting your website to your tools
If an enquiry from your website gets copied by hand into your CRM, calendar or spreadsheet, you are doing a job a computer should be doing. Here is how integration fixes that.
